Restarting the rdpclip service on Windows Server
Fixing the clipboard problem on Windows server
Note
Windows Server is available for installation on all VPS and dedicated server plans.
Occasionally, Windows Server users experience issues with the clipboard when using RDP. These problems usually occur when multiple terminal sessions are active simultaneously. As a result, simple copy/paste operations may stop working within the RDP session (copying on your local machine and pasting on the remote one, or vice versa).
Important
The issue typically affects only a single session and does not impact other active connections.
Normally, users resolve this by reconnecting to the RDP session and logging out. However, there’s a simpler solution — restarting the rdpclip.exe process, which manages the clipboard functionality in the terminal session (Remote Desktop Clipboard).
This process automatically starts each time you connect or reconnect to the remote desktop.
Restarting the rdpclip.exe Process
Open Task Manager in your RDP session. Right-click the taskbar and select the corresponding option.
In the Task Manager window, on the Processes tab, find rdpclip.exe or Remote Desktop Clipboard Monitor, right-click it, and select End task.
To start the process again, in the same Task Manager window, go to File → Run new task.
In the new window, type rdpclip.exe and click OK.
Checking Clipboard Settings in RDP
To ensure the clipboard works correctly, make sure it is enabled in your Remote Desktop connection settings:
Click Show Options.
Go to the Local Resources tab and ensure the Clipboard option is checked.
