How to ignore DNS servers pushed by OpenVPN

How to keep your local DNS settings when connecting to a VPN.

When using a corporate DNS server to resolve internal hostnames, you may want to connect to VPN without overriding your current DNS configuration.

To make the OpenVPN client ignore the DNS server pushed by the VPN server while still receiving the correct routing table, add the following line to your OpenVPN configuration file:

pull-filter ignore "dhcp-option DNS"

Save the file and reconnect to the VPN for the change to take effect.
